On the 16th March 2020 Overton Youth Football Club suspended all football activities following a clear directive issued by the FA in light of the developing Coronavirus Pandemic.
A further statement released by the FA on 26th March 2020 seemed to confirm the end of the season for all grassroots football but the information and clarity was and still is lacking. The reality of the ongoing situation is that 19/20 is over and as such, the committee of OYFC are actively planning the conclusion of the season. As of today, 18th April it is still unclear how the three leagues the club participate in - Hampshire Girls, Peter Houseman and Test Way will conclude the season. We anticipate small sided tournaments will be cancelled.
As a club, we would very much like to formally end the season with a celebration event. It's vitally important we celebrate the achievements, success and ongoing development of our members and recognise the unwavering commitment of our army of volunteers. Whilst the country remains in lockdown its very difficult to predict what lies ahead and plan accordingly. The committee are evaluating a number of different options; ranging from a group gathering later in the year to individual team based events. Our discussions will continue during our May virtual committee meeting giving us as much time as possible to maximise any change in government legislation.
Rest assured whatever the conclusion, the club will strictly adhere to relevant government guidance and not place the health and well being of our members and their families at risk.
We hope you are all keeping fit and well. We encourage members to maintain exercise where safe to and shall be providing voluntary exercises and practices via team managers and through our social media channels to improve skills and ball mastery.
Finally the club would like to recognise the outstanding work of many of our committee and volunteers who are coming together to provide support and assistance in the local community via the Overton Cares scheme and contributing to national PPE projects for the NHS - a fabulous effort during these challenging times.
Stay home, save lives, protect the NHS.
Overton Youth F.C. was founded in 1982, formed to build on the pedigree of men’s football in Overton and its surrounding areas. Over its 30 year + history the club has gone from strength to strength - growing player numbers year on year whilst remaining a core part of the local community.
The club started as one side but now sees 13 teams across multiple age groups, competing in various leagues who are proud to wear the pale blue and white stripes of the club.
With development at the heart of our grassroots club, our hard-working committee and dedicated team managers work tirelessly to help children of all ages and abilities get active and enjoy football in a safe, secure and progressive learning environment with a key focus on togetherness and being part of a team where everyone’s contribution is of equal importance.
In 2002 the club was one of the first in the area to achieve the FA Charter Standard Accreditation. As a club we strive to maintain the highest standards and conduct associated with this, and instil this in all officials, coaches, players and supporters. We take the Safeguarding of our players seriously and pride ourselves on the standards we have and continue to set.
This site has information on all our Team Managers and Officials. Please feel free to contact them. Details of our policies and safeguarding can be found along with information about our wonderful sponsors - who we couldn’t run the club without – is worth a look too.
We hope to welcome you to one of our training sessions or games very soon!
